MyHomeCall launches free version of app
In January 2026 we launched a free version of the My Home Call app: a free personal safety app that lets you reach an emergency contact and share your location from any phone, even when your own is out of battery, lost, broken or stolen.
The idea is simple. If you cannot get to your own phone, you can still reach the people who matter from any device you can borrow.
What Our Free Personal Safety App Does
The free version lets you add one emergency contact and send them your what3words location from any device. So if your phone is out of battery, stolen or broken, you can still reach a loved one through any phone or tablet you can borrow.
When you reach out, you can call, message, or send your what3words location, so the person you are contacting knows exactly where you are.
Set Up in Under Five Minutes
Setting up takes less than five minutes. You create an account secured with a password and facial recognition, then add your emergency contact. That contact confirms by replying to a text message, and you are ready to go. You can see the full process on our how it works page.
Upgrade for More Contacts and Features
Alongside the free version, we are running a pilot offer of £5.95 for the first year. The full version adds more, including up to four emergency contacts, stored medical information, and pre-written emergency messages. You can see everything on the pricing page.
Why a Free Safety App Matters on a Night Out
Phones tend to fail at the worst possible moment. A survey by Endsleigh Insurance, conducted by the NUS Insights Team, found that six in ten students break their phone at university, and that nights out are when it most often happens:
- 59% of phone losses occur on nights out
- 33% of phone thefts happen on nights out
- 10% of phone breakages happen on nights out
These situations are common and often unavoidable. With My Home Call, you can still reach your loved ones from any device, to call, message, or share your what3words location. For more on staying contactable after dark, read our student guide to night out safety.
